Frequently Asked Questions
How many sessions will I need?
Everyone is different and your therapy is tailored to your own individual needs. It is difficult to put a number on this prior to your first consultation. Some people only require a few sessions however, depending on your history it, may be a longer term therapy.
How much does it cost?
While there is inevitably a fee associated with private counselling, this is always tailored to the type of treatment required and to a person's individual circumstances. If you feel this could be an obstacle please just let me know and I will work with you to come to a suitable arrangement. You are also welcome to undertake sessions as regularly as you are able or to take a temporary break from therapy where this would help. There is absolutely no charge or commitment for an initial telephone, text or email chat to discuss your requirements or answer any questions you may have.
Which age groups do you treat?
I help people of all ages and from many different backgrounds. In addition to treating adults, I have additional training in providing support, counselling and therapy for young children and adolescents.
Is EMDR a form of Hypnotism?
EMDR is a clinical treatment, not hypnotism. You remain in complete control and concious the whole time and the process cannot be undertaken without your willingness and co-operation.
Will you be able to help me?
Clearly, no one can guarantee success but it is rare for a therapy as effective as EMDR not to help at least alleviate some of the symptoms. This results in a different perspective on the incident(s). I will work with you during your first session to establish whether EMDR is likely to be of some use.
How often are sessions?
This is dependent entirely on you. Initially they tend to be weekly sessions, quickly moving to suit the persons individual needs and finances.
Do you keep records?
As a registered mental health nurse, psychotherapist and counsellor, I am required by firmly established protocols and good practice to keep a record of contact. This includes making a record of your treatment but be assured these are strictly confidential and kept to a minimum. Ethically, I engage with a qualified and accredited supervisor so it may be necessary for me to seek guidance about particular sessions without revealing personal details.
What qualifications and experience do you have?
